Consul Cunanan to Hold Photo Exhibit in Tbilisi and Gori

Honorary Georgian Consul Thelmo Cunanan will be holding a photo exhibit at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia and at Stalin Museum in Gori, Georgia. The exhibit will feature the architectural photographs of Manila of famous Filipino illustrator and painter John Paul Olivares. The exhibition is scheduled for late May 2017.

In this regard, Consul Cunanan met with officials of the NPL, led by Giorgi Kekelidze and Kaki Kenchoshvili, to discuss the exhibition. The NPL already has a sister-library partnership with De La Salle University in Manila., which was organized by Consul Cunanan. This is the first such relationship of Georgia with the Philippines and Asia and it focuses on exchanges of materials and resources and the development and sharing of best practices in library management and research. The NPL is the main depository of books and archival materials of the Georgian government. I

Consul Cunanan also met with museum director Liana Okropiridze, who is working to broaden the content of the museum’s exhibitions. The Stalin Museum was established in the 1950’s and has concentrated mainly on the life of the late leader of the Soviet Union, Josef Stalin, who was born in Gori. Recently, however, Ms. Okropiridze has been using the museum’s spacious galleries to feature other exhibitions that are unrelated to Stalin but are aimed at promoting cultural diversity and the arts. Consul Cunanan and Ms Okropiridze have also discussed plans to establish a small friendship and peace corner in the museum’s open park area.
