The aim of the familiarization trip was to expose the Filipino travel officials to the beauty of Georgia’s tourist destinations, warmth of the country’s people and culture, and exquisite and ancient culture, with the end objective of organizing tours and increasing passenger traffic to Georgia from the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries.

The group was in Georgia from March 22 – 28, 2012 and was able to visit the capital Tbilisi, the monasteries of Mtskheta, the wine region of Kakheti with its many vineyards and magnificent views of the Caucasus mountain range, and the 11th-century Davit Gareja Cave Monastery Complex–a UN World Heritage Site. They were also treated on every occasion to the best Georgian cuisine and drinks and spirits such as Chacha, Natakthari Beer, and the famous Borjomi mineral water. Consul Cunanan is currently organizing the first eco-tourism groups from the Philippines to Georgia.
