Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan Jr is working closely with the Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia and its Agency for Protected Areas to promote eco-tourism in Georgia’s many nature reserves and wildlife areas.
In this regard, he is coordinating closely with Deputy Environment Minister Ekaterine Grigalava, who visited the Philippines last year and who signed a historic environment cooperation and friendship agreement with the APA’s counterpart, the Biodiversity Management Bureau. The project was an initiative of Consul Cunanan, who signed the agreement as a witness.
Georgian government is focusing on the tourism potential of its protected areas. Aside from the tours to these areas he has organized, Consul Cunanan is targeting specific travel groups that are interested in eco-tourism. One of these groups is the prestigious Wild Bird Club of the Philippines, the biggest organization of bird-watchers in the country, with whom Consul Cunanan is organizing the first Philippine bird-watchers delegation to Georgia in October.
