Consul Cunanan is Keynote Speaker at West Point Society of the Philippines Founder’s Day; Promotes Georgia Relations

Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan Jr was invited by the West Point Society of the Philippines (WPSP) to be the organization’s Keynote Speaker at its Founder’s Day Celebration on March 19, 2016. The event, which included a ceremonial banquet, was held at the headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City, Metro Manila.

It will be to celebrate the 214th anniversary of the founding of the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, the oldest continuously run military post in America. Every year, West Point Societies in the US and all over the world celebrate this special anniversary.

The WPSP is the most prestigious, exclusive, and elite group of active and retired Philippine military officers who graduated from the United States Military Academy. The WPSP counts as its members some of the most influential and powerful personalities in the Philippines, including the country’s most famous West Pointer, former Philippine President Fidel Valdes Ramos. Consul Cunanan’s late father, Lieutenant General Thelmo Y. Cunanan, was a member of West Point Class of 1961.

In his speech, Consul Cunanan discussed his initiatives at Philippine nation-building and sports development, as well as activities to improve Georgian – Philippine relations. In particular, he talked about his socio-civic and community-building projects in Georgia in partnership with the newly-established West Point Society of Georgia, which is composed of all Georgian USMA graduates.

Currently, Consul Cunanan and Georgian military and police officers are working on Disaster Risk Management programs to help the Georgian government develop policies for natural calamities. Consul Cunanan will be carrying out these projects in Georgia, starting May this year.
