Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan Jr. recently called on Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr, a leading contender for the Vice Presidency of the Republic of the Philippines, and invited the latter to visit Georgia.
Senator Marcos, who is currently leading in all pre-election surveys, received Consul Cunanan at his campaign headquarters in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.
The two chatted extensively about Georgia and its culture and Philippines – Georgia relations. Senator Marcos’ mother, former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos, was a personal friend of former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze.
Consul Cunanan gifted Senator Marcos and his wife, who are both avid wine aficionados, with several bottles of fine Georgian saperavi wine. Senator Marcos expressed interest to formally visit Georgia after the May elections.
