The Consulate of Georgia in the Philippines, led by Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan Jr, is busy preparing for the arrival of the first Georgian local government unit delegation to the Philippines, who will arrive in the second week of October.
The delegates, top officials of Rustavi City, are visiting upon the official invitation of Honorable Bernard Dy, the Mayor of Cauayan City, Isabela, which is the official sister-city of Rustavi.
Last year, Cauayan and Rustavi entered into a historic sister-city relationship, the FIRST between Georgia and the Philippines and the FIRST between Georgia and ASEAN. The project was an initiative of Consul Cunanan, in partnership with the mayors of Cauayan and Rustavi and their respective councils.
In May, Consul Cunanan paid an official courtesy call on Rustavi Mayor Davit Jikia and presented the latter with the invitation from Mayor Dy.
The delegates from Rustavi will be attending the official celebration of the 275th anniversary of Cauayan and the official opening of the San Luis Eco-Tourism Park. They will also pay a courtesy call on Isabela Governor Faustino Dy, Jr.
During their visit, the Georgians will dialogue with private and public sector officials, businessmen, agriculture cooperatives, and representatives of the church and the academe. The host city will also take them on a tour of northern Luzon, including the Banawe Rice Terraces and the Callao Caves. Finally, the Georgians will experience an authentic Filipino fiesta and procession, one of the highlights of the Feast of Our Lady of the Pillar.
