The Consulate of Georgia in the Philippines, led by Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan Jr, has carried out three film activities for 2015. The latest film screenings were held at Rizal Park’s 2,000-seat amphitheatre, which is located in the heart of Manila.
The films that were shown were “Will There Be a Theatre Up There?” by Nana Janelidze, “The Other Bank” by Giorgi Ovashvili, and “Keep Smiling” by Rusudan Chkonia. All three are critically-acclaimed motion pictures that have won numerous awards all over the world.
Earlier, Consul Cunanan carried out the 2nd Nationwide Georgian Film Roadshow, which his office holds every year in May to coincide with Georgia’s Independence Day. The films are shown in four cities all over the Philippines, in partnership with Film Development Council of the Philippines.
Following the successful roadshow, Consul Cunanan again presented Georgia at the World Premieres Film Festival, the Philippines’ most prestigious international cinematic event. It was the first time that Georgian directors participated in the film festival. All of the movies were very well-received by audiences.
Consul Cunanan’s film activities are carried out in cooperation with the Georgian National Film Center, the Georgian Consulate’s strategic partner in building awareness of Georgian culture in the Philippines, through the medium of film.
