In celebration of Georgia’s independence, the Consulate of Georgia in the Philippines, led by Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan Jr, is holding the 2nd Nationwide Georgian Film Roadshow. The event starts on May 8, 2015 in Davao City, followed by screenings every weekend in the cities of Iloilo, Baguio, and Zamboanga.
The films, provided by the Georgian National Film Center, will be shown in the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ theatres. After the roadshow, the films will return to Manila in June and will be screened at Rizal Park’s 2,000-seat Open Air Theatre.
The featured movies are all critically-acclaimed Georgian motion pictures that have participated in international film festivals all over the world. These are “Salt White”, “Conflict Zone”, “Street Days”, “The Guardian”, and a collection of award-winning short films. The movies offer the viewer a glimpse of life and human drama in Georgia, following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Consul Cunanan will lead the formal opening of the film festival in Davao City on May 8. The next weekend, on May 16, on the sidelines of the festival, he will hold a special diplomatic/consular screening of 2015 Academy award-finalist “Tangerines” at the Baguio City Cinematheque, followed by cocktails for invited guests at the Hill Station Tapas Bar and Restaurant.
Last year, Consul Cunanan organized the succesful 1st Nationwide Georgian Film Roadshow, in partnership with the FDCP and GNFC. This is an annual event of the Georgian Consulate.
