On November 28, officials of the Consulate of Georgia in the Philippines, led by Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan Jr. and Public Relations Director Professor Melissa Dizon, gave talks to graduating business and tourism students at Caucasus University.
Consul Cunanan discussed Georgian – Philippine relations and his roles and responsibilities as honorary representative of Georgia in the Philippines. He focused especially on his efforts to promote Georgian culture and establish institutional partnerships, and the numerous initiatives being carried out by his office to build strong academic relationships between the two countries. To date, Consul Cunanan has established three educational Memorandums of Understanding between Caucasus University and Lyceum of the Philippines University, San Sebastian College – Recoletos, and The Manila Times College. He encouraged the attending students to consider the Philippines as a possible destination for their overseas study and exchange programs.
For her part, Professor Dizon, who is a tourism educator and practitioner, talked about the latest tourism trends in the Philippines and Asia, including the growing popularity of “experiential travel”. She also shared her experiences in creating and carrying out unique, creative, and non-traditional campaigns, events, and programs to promote Philippine tourist spots. Caucasus University’s College of Tourism is one of its newest schools. Officials of the university are eager to develop the College of Tourism, in cognizance of the tourism potential in Georgia and its possible contributions to national employment and the economy.
