Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan Jr is working to expand the trade and investment activities of San Miguel Corporation to Georgia.

Established in 1890 as a brewery, SMC is Southeast Asia’s largest publicly listed food, beverage and packaging company with over 17,000 employees in over 100 major facilities throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Its flagship product, San Miguel Beer, is one of the largest selling beers and among the top ten selling beer brands in the world. San Miguel’s manufacturing operations extend beyond its home market to Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Australia; and its products are exported to 60 markets around the world. Since 2008, SMC has ventured beyond its core businesses, becoming involved in fuel & oil (Petron Corporation), power generation and infrastructure. It was briefly involved in Philippine Airlines from April 2012 to September 2014.

Consul Cunanan, who has also been for the last six years both director and adviser of San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong Ltd (SMC’s oldest subsidiary, established in the former Crown Colony in 1949), discussed the matter with SMC President Ramon S. Ang and other SMC officials during a recent board meeting. SMC is keen on expanding its beer business to new markets, such as Georgia and the Caucasus.

Consul Cunanan will be meeting with Georgian business groups in late November to discuss the possibility of San Miguel beer entering the Georgian market and those of neighbouring countries. He will also explore lucrative investment opportunities for the conglomerate in Georgia’s power and infrastructure sectors.
