Consul (a.h.) Thelmo Cunanan has been invited by Rustavi Mayor Davit Jikia to be an honored guest at the official anniversary celebration of his city on October 18 – 19, 2014.
Located 20 minutes from Tbilisi, the capital of the country, Rustavi is in the province of Kvemo Kartli and stands on the Mtkvari River. The city is very historic and was founded in the 5th century B.C. Today, it has a population of 120,000 and is one of the major industrial centers of Georgia and a gateway to Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Last June, Consul Cunanan forged a friendship and cooperation agreement between Rustavi City and Santiago and Cauayan Cities in Isabela, Philippines. The accord is a landmark accomplishment as it is the FIRST sister-city agreement between Georgia and the Philippines and Georgia and Asia. Efforts are underway for an exchange of official visits by delegations of both cities in order to promote trade, commerce, and other bilateral exchanges. Consul Cunanan is also promoting cultural events in cooperation with Rustavi City.
