On June 20, Consul Cunanan visited the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) at its headquarters in the Exportbank Plaza, Makati City. His objective was to strengthen Georgian – Philippine cultural relations, through the medium of cinema.

Consul Cunanan met with FDCP Executive Director Teodoro Granados to discuss the proposed Georgian Film Roadshow. The FDCP and the Georgian Consulate are planning to show Georgian movies in four of the FDCP’s Cinematheques all over the Philippines, starting the third week of July. The event will begin with an official opening in Baguio City. From there, Consul Cunanan will accompany the movies to the cities of Iloilo, Davao, and Zamboanga and will give talks about Georgia at all the ceremonies.

The movies, a combination of modern and classical and full-feature and short films, were brought to the Philippines by Consul Cunanan from his recent official trip to Georgia. While in Tbilisi, the honorary consul held meetings with officials of the Georgian National Film Center (GNFC) to discuss the promotion of the country’s movies in the Philippines. The GNFC graciously provided the movies that will be presented during the roadshow.

Consul Cunanan, in cooperation with the FDCP, the National Commission for Culture and Arts, and the National Parks Development Committee, has already organized two Georgian film festivals in the Philippines—the first ever in the country and in Southeast Asia. Currently, he is also working for the participation of a Philippine film maker in this year’s Tbilisi International Film Festival (December 1 – 7) and the showing of Georgian movies in several film festivals in the Philippines next year.
