On November 12, 2013, Consul Cunanan attended the Launch of the Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) Action Plan at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Pasay City, Manila.

The joint presentation by the DFA and United Nations laid out facts and figures pertaining to the gargantuan humanitarian crisis and its different socio-economic dimensions to members of the diplomatic and consular corps and international aid agencies. Short-term and medium-term response strategies and possible channels of support and assistance were also discussed. After the presentation, an open forum was held, with many diplomats expressing solidarity and support for the Filipino people.

The speakers and presenters included Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario; Ms. Luiza Carvalho, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in the Philippines; Ms. Valerie Amos, Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator; and Mr. David Carden, United Nations Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in the Philippines.
