On July 28, Consul Cunanan flew to Japan to visit the Embassy of Botswana in Tokyo, which has jurisdiction over the Philippines and Southeast Asia. As President of the Philippines – Botswana Economic and Cultural Council, Inc. (PBECC) and Consul (a.h.) of Georgia, he is promoting Botswana as a tourism and investment destination not just for Filipinos, but also Georgian travelers and businessmen.
As Ambassador Jacob Nkate was on official business in Gabarone, Consul Cunanan instead met with Mr. Pule Mphothwe, Deputy Chief of Mission, and Mr. Mmolotsi Michael Tsae, Second Secretary, and discussed ways for greater cooperation and coordination between the PBECC and the Embassy of Botswana.
Consul Cunanan and Mr. Philip Chien, PBECC Chairman, were in Botswana in early June, where they met key government officials and members of the Filipino community. Consul Cunanan is working with his partners in Tbilisi, Georgia, for the establishment of the Georgia – Botswana Economic and Cultural Council, Inc. to spur tourism between Africa and the Caucasus region.
